Really? I hope they don't strike any fog when they get there and have enough fuel reserves.....although the PNR comes up pretty soon....

I went down there in a Herc many years ago - I didn't volunteer the second time....

Martin, could be evac flight or some urgent delivery to McMurdo. It would not justify fly c17 or c130.
Got that this after lunch our time, they must be on the way back or already back as they don't hung around too long on the ice.
It dissapear from the radar around Auckland Island. I suppose all depends what is available in Chch.

Possible, but they taking bookings for March 22 earliest. Aircraft is registered to Flight Inspection Services US. Hardly available for leisure flights.
Also we still in restricted level of Covid freedom, no tourists allowed to NZ in any form or shape. Borders closed. Anyway just an observation.

Just catch returning flight from the Ice Live Flight Tracker - Real-Time Flight Tracker Map | Flightradar24

Owned by the FAA - going down to the ice to re-calibrate the bits'n'pieces at the start of the summer season. I don't see any mention of a VOR or ILS on that route chart but I suppose if you keep heading south you must get there eventually...... GPS doesn't work to well down there I believe.
