Seeing how my little mp3 player/fm radio uses the headphone cable as its FM antenna, I thought maybe something like that could be arranged for my BR330T. I was thinking of hooking up the inside connector of the antenna input to the sleeve (ground, shield) wire on the headphones. Does that make sense? Do you see any potential problem with that?

Thanks!

See page 36 of the manual:

WARNING!

Never connect any part of the headphone jack to the antenna jack or connect the radio to an installation where the antenna and audio connection are grounded. This might damage the scanner.

There's something about the audio circuit in the 330, 396, and 246 that will cause damage to the audio chip when grounded to the antenna.

If you are in an area with relative strong signals you may want to experiment with a plain wire running out of the antenna jack and just bind it to the head/earphone wire temporarily to see how it works out. Something tells me certain bands will be much better than others. If it works out for you you can do something to make it more permanent. Let us know how it works out; I've had mixed results with this in the past.
