A Navy T-39 Sabreliner is missing after departing from Chattanooga for a navigation training mission. Late last night KING 16 (HC-130 71st Rescue Squadron) conducted a grid search near the Gilmer County Airport (49A) located southwest of Ellijay, GA. This airport is near point C on the VR-1055 military low-level training route (http://www.geocities.com/kc8mzm/graphics/vr1055.jpg). Individuals in north GA may want to keep an ear on the following freqs (AM):

121.5 - ELT beacon (also 243.0)
123.1 - Search & Rescue common
255.4 - used for position reporting along VR routes
282.8 - Search & Rescue common

In addition, the following Civil Air Patrol freqs may be in use (FM):

148.125
148.1375
148.15
149.5375

i just came back from this. they called me in-flight....... had me refuel at Dobbins and fly direct. i searched for 7 hours. refueling twice. my bird is FLIR equipped and they needed that due to heavy fog over the area.

re:

Civil Air Patrol is active on 148.125 simplex. They ran a mobile command post base and had cooms with ground and air units on this freq. Two aircraft were in use Wednesday, will resume operations 8:00 am Thursday from command post at Walker County Fire Station 17 on West Armurchee Road.
Also...Murray County Rescue search and rescue teams will meet at Highway 411 south command post at 7:00 am Thursday to resume search in Carter's Lake area.
Keep an ear on area sheriff/fire/rescue repeaters and tac frequencies until search either called off or plane found.
GSP also had a helicopter in use late Wednesday. So keep state freqs in too, as well as Unicom air freqs 123.00, 123.025, 123.050 for air-air coordination. GSP has in past used 154.770 for air operations in connection with spotting marijuana fields...might be hot tomorrow.
