Have a friend in Shelbyville Ky (Shelby county) that has a 1065. He is having troubles with some signals coming in that he can't understand. When I had him on the phone the scanner did pick up local cops fine, he said the state is what he can't understand.
The odd issue is he can't access NOAA - when he presses the weather button it shows a heap error message (bunch of numbers/letters). go back to scanning and it goes away.

I didn't have anything to offer him for suggestions.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Is his scanner hand programmed or software programmed? If it is software programmed look at how much memory is used I have seen that when you have to many objects programmed into memory. It should be listed in number of objects total, blocks used, and blocks free.

He told me Scanner Master programmed it for him.

I was poking around and found out that the heap error can be caused by talk groups that are not assigned to a trunked system. He doesn't have internet so I would have to walk him through it but I'm not 100% up on TGRPs yet to tell him where to go. Any help here?

Thanks

Where would you find this on the unit?

I'm resisting resetting it as a last resort as he would have to send it back to scanner master or to me to reprogram it.

#1 Push Prog
#2 F3 GLOB
#3 Down Arrow to Memory Info
#4 Right Arrow Screen says TOTAL ITEMS UNDER THAT FREE SPACE
#5 Down Arrow Conv Channels
#6 Down Arrow Talk Groups
#7 Trunk Sys
#8 Down to end Menu
#9 F1 Done
This will tell you how full the scanner is. You can Del and start over or Read the Scanner and find the Programming Errors. It would be easy to buy the software buy the cable get a premium subscriber membership and program it yourself. The last thing I would do is pay a programmer that I could not see local for updates or errors. I program for local people here and have never charged the listeners for updates or changes.

He doesn't have to reset the scanner. There is a TG that is not assigned to a TSYS. I am not sure of the best way to find it and it will be tough to find without hooking it to a computer and downloading the programming to the computer.

My RS scanners do that error at about 3% memory unused. If I let the scanner log Group ID's and Radio ID's very long it starts that error without any extra programming and I have to clean it out.

Unfortunately pressing ANY button gives him the heap error message. Seems that I can't talk him through it to find the unassigned TGRP.

Been there and done that. I reviewed the configuration using the computer, found the TG with the missing TSYS, fixed it and uploaded the corrected configuration to the scanner. I don't have any good ideas for finding the problem without using a computer.
