I'm in Coweta Co just East of you and I'm pretty sure Heard Co is on one of the P25 digital systems around here, probably the same system as Carroll co. Coweta is currently still on VHF, but they are about to join the W. GA system Carroll and others are on in the next month or two.

Let me go look for that info. I know its in the DB.

Yep, its called the WARRS (Western Area Regional Radio System Authority) - Western Area Regional Radio System Authority (WARRS) Trunking System, Carollton, Georgia - Scanner Frequencies

It shows there are 6 counties currently on it with Coweta being one of them, although Coweta hasn't gone live yet, but I think everyone else has been using it for awhile. (GA-Carroll GA-Douglas GA-Heard GA-Fulton GA-Haralson GA-Coweta)

It looks like pretty much all of Heard, CO is on it.

They have gone digital and new frequencies. This is the frequencies they have listed in that link I posted above. Even if you could get these frequencies on your scanner, you wouldn't hear anything intelligible on them. You still need one of the newer ones that support the Digital P25 trunking modes.

As you can see, Coweta went with their own 700mhz frequencies for some reason, but it appears everyone else is using the 800mz frequencies listed.

These frequencies you see listed here are their old VHF/UHF frequencies. They might still be hanging onto them as backups just in case the new system goes down, but after probably a year+ on it, I would imagine they have the bugs worked out by now.

im sorry but i think im confused. my scanner does have the trunking feature but not sure about the digital. so would i have to put in all those freqs. i havnt played around with the trunking on it before so not sure what im doing and i cant remember what i did with my book for it. its a radio shack pro-97. its a hand held unit. boy i remember when i could just punch in a single freq and hit enter and just listen. this had gone high tech for sure.

please excuse the ignorance, just dont know much about it. trying to learn.

Well, I just looked up your unit to see what you had - Pro-97 - The RadioReference Wiki

This is an "analog" trunking scanner. So no it will not pick up any of the new digital systems. To make matters worse your scanner doesn't support "rebanding" either. Read the Wiki to get a better idea of what that was - Rebanding - The RadioReference Wiki

So basically, even though your trunking scanner could still follow analog trunking systems, if that agency has been rebanded, its now useless for following them too. I've got the Pro-94 which was basically another analog trunking scanner that also doesn't support rebanding. Fayette Co (PTC & Fayetteville, etc) hasn't gone digital yet, but they have rebanded so their analog trunking frequencies can't even be followed by our outdated scanners. :(.

so basically, the best thing you can do is educate yourself on the new digital systems and if you want to get back into scanning, you'll probably want to upgrade to a new digital scanner. There are lots out there, so just figure out what you need.

Since Coweta hasn't made the jump to digital yet, I haven't made a purchase myself. Plus I just got into Ham radio, so most of my extra money is going to Ham equipment. I still enjoy scanning, but I think enjoy talking on Ham Radio's more.

That's actually how I got into Ham. I realized everyone around me had gone digital or were rebanded and I could no longer follow them, so I started listening to local 2m & 440 repeaters and then figured out I wanted to talk to them instead of just listening.

Good luck on your search. Just do your research and lots of reading and you'll figure out eventually what you want. :)

The 700 MHZ. frequencies in Coweta County may be a simulcast site back to the 800 System
on WARRS. Please post the active control channels on that system when you find them.
And the System ID and Tower ID for those frequencies.
I cant get a Pro 96 / 2096 to trunk the 700 MHz. control frequencies but you can listen to the voice frequency
or control channel freq. manually.
If you program the 700 MHz. voice channel into your scanner set it to FM and it will stop on the active freq. while scanning.
If anyone knows how to make the scanner trunk on 700 MHz. please let me know.

GRE/RS Pro-106/PSR-500, Pro-197/PSR-600, and the PSR-800. Uniden 396XT/996XT, HP-1. Will all do the latest types of digital scanning. Shameless plug, I do have a Pro-197 in the For Sale forum.

Did you get the USB programming cable (part # 20-546)? If not, do so. You will need it to upgrade the firmware on the 106 and upload your ScanLists to the radio. Go to www.starrsoft.com and download the thirty day free trial of Win500. Import your systems and conventional frequencies to it. The easiest way to pinpoint the ScanLists you want specific systems/conventional frequencies, is to name them in the area listed in the upper left of the software main page. Just highlight the appropriate scanlist and type in the Alphatag you want. Then, when you import the system/conventional frequencies, it will prompt you pick the list. Click on the dropdown window and choose it. We will try and help as much as possible:)

If you want to try this software, I made a quick file that you can try, if it works, edit, add, delete to make it your own. File attached is in Zip format, unzip it into the Win500 (30 day free trial) directory, open it, and upload to the scanner.

Win500: PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, PRO-197, PSR-310, PSR-410 Scanner Software for Data Management, Monitoring, and Control

No problem, I'll delete the file. I always like to have the latest upgrades in my scanners, fixes, additions, etc. Glad you figured it out, good luck! :)
