yes i did get the cable. this scanner seams to be already programed with georgia stuff. but dont have what i want. the cable i bought came with the program software. i used it and found my county and all that then loaded it to the software then tried to load to scanner and it didnt work. how would i know if the firmware needs updating and can you walk me through the updating proccess

Hopefully you didn't choose ScanCrap lite Terrible software. When you turn on the scanner, in the Welcome screen, press the # 3 button. It will show your uP App Ver: RU1.X, DSP AppVer: RU1.X, Dsp VocVer: RF1.0. The latest firmware version is 1.9. Go to the RS website, go to the scanner tab under radios, etc. Click on the 197 or 106 pic. Click on product support. Click on Ver:1.9. Download and unzip. Follow the directions to the letter. When you are done, initialize the scanner. Follow the directions on pages 98 and 99. Then, using the file you made using Win500, upload it to the scanner. <To check that the radio and com port see each other (the right angle stereo plug only, do not use the adapter that came with it) plugged into the PC/IF jack above the headphone jack> Click on the drop down menu under Scanner, click on download from scanner. The lights on the usb cable will light up and let you know it's working. Save the file. What ever came on the scanner from the factory is over 3 years old and won't work.
