VA Beach PD asked dispatch for a complaints phone number. She sent it to his KDT. Then I heard what appered to be someone dialing a phone on the scanner. I complaint answered. As soon as I heard this I locked out that channel. It was just strange that I heard him dial and then talk. Was it a cell phone or radio patch? I haven't heard it in a while.

Or called PL in GRE scanners. Don't know why you locked it out because its not illegal to listen to.

Now and then our school's procurer in the field will call a vendor regarding a purchase using the same process. I also heard a fire/EMS radio from a bar to another user at his home advising him to "get down here", the joint is jumping.

In both cases, a phone was ringing prior to hookup.

Frank... I use to here it when I had my 200XLT and had all 20 freq's in it and had to lockout the control channel at mid-night when it changed. I cant remember which one, but I think it was one of the 857.xxx freq's. Not sure how I-CALL will work on my 246T. I will be sending you some update freq's from here at work later on tonight.

I think the 246 should set Motorola using 700,000 without the comma. And Edacs as i00000. Both are generic I-call for Uniden scanners.

It's a phone patch. There is a key on some radios ( I believe only supervisors have this capability ) that connects the user's radio to the phone patch, which as Mark has said, a specific freq in the trunking system. You can tell it's a patch because the user cannot hear the other side while his mic is keyed. When the user releases the key, a courtesy tone sounds (BEEP) signalling the party at the other end it's OK to talk.

It can be funny when both sides are talking at the same time when the other party doesn't realize the user cannot hear while he's talking!

At the old job I had we had the Motorola portable with the phone keypad. You had to push the ptt button and the # key and you would get a dial tone. Then push the ptt button and dial the number you wanted. The radio's were in the 400.000 freq.
