I first thought this was NC Wildlife LEO,but sounds like GSP in GA ! I am close to Winston Salem,NC with my XTS5000 VHF monitoring 159.315 P25. I got a NAC167 a few days ago on this same frequency with my PSR800. I did not see this frequency fo GA GSP though.

"153 to Gainesville " "go ahead 153"

Is this unit numbers that GSP has ? They were taking someone to Hart county jail on another call. I don't know of another Hart co or Gainesville. They also call for "254 to Piedmont" from time to time. Anyone here confirm this ?

Chances are that you were hearing Ga. DNR comms on one or more of their 151.460 repeater sites.

151.460 is the input to the N.C. DNR repeater sites outputing on 159.315 MHz. In essense, you were hearing Ga DNR via the NC DNR repeaters.

It would have been helpful to know what P.L. tone(s) were being displayed on your PSR 800 on 159.315
when you were hearing the traffic.

BTW ... it is not uncommon to hear GSP stations during the overnight hours on 154.680 MHz (csq), depending on the weather and any inversion activity. The base stations all I-D by location. The spring and fall months offer many opportunities for enhanced communications monitoring during the overnight hours on VHF HB and UHF.
