Am I hearing Reno AAA from the Bay Area?

Could one of you guys in the Reno area punch in 937.7500 and tell me if you get a PL of 82.5 and hear AAA tow trucks? I find it hard to believe, but I heard a call on S. McCarran & Mill St. today and another at College Dr. & N. Virginia, and I know of no other intersecting streets by those names anywhere near here. Maybe propagation was just really good today!

Thanks for any help!

I'm in Reno and I've had 937.75 programmed for 2 days and haven't heard a peep on that freq. Those ARE valid Reno intersections though.

Same as Joey except I had it in for 3 days - FCC records indicated they are licensed on that freq on a repeater on McClelllan Peak (Carson City) - I guess they could be patching their VHF traffic over to that system or else maybe they are getting ready to switch over to that freq - just speculation on my part on both counts.

I got a PM that someone was hearing this from Marysville and that it sounded like Folsom. I'm guessing that dispatcher just had multiple radios at the time, thus the calls in Reno. Thanks for trying folks!

Does AAA use this freq to dispatch tow trucks? I figured they just called the individual tow companies via landline. What's this used for? (and I didn't see the thread before so I only just now punched it in)

AAA is mostly radio dispatched. This is one of around 25 frequencies used for Northern CA, UT, and NV. I am working on a complete listing with tones and sites.

Alright, I just pulled 937.7500 up, and am getting PL 82.5. It sounds like tow truck-type traffic (keep referring to "members"). It's pretty scratchy for me here in Sacto, so I doubt it's in Folsom. I can understand what they're saying, so I may be wrong though. I'll try to listen a little more and get location. Sounds like dispatch is called "CalState" as well.

Just heard a call at "Sun Valley at 2nd, per NHP call". Sun Valley Dr and 2nd Ave. meet north of Reno by about a mile, up in some neighborhood. Sounds like Reno to me. I'm using Garmin's mapsource software, and didn't find any matching intersections in California.

CalState is CSAA, so you're hearing what I was hearing. Just curious, did you hear trucks too or just the dispatch side?

Do you have any idea where "Pine Hill" is? That's where the Folsom repeater supposedly is. It says "Pine Hill - Folsom".

You may hear a dispatcher and no trucks at times because one dispatcher will have multiple radios, but the radios are not interconnected. The dispatcher hears both radios, and transmits both, but the trucks can't hear the other radios. It causes some chaos when they do it during busy times.

"Pine Hill" is a peak going up HWY 50 at the Sacramento County and El Dorado County lines.

Hmm intersting, looking at the link on the location of Pine Hill shows something different than I know, however a local radio service company here in Sac who we used to pay for radio service through says thats where it is, the peak I described above has MANY communications antennas on each side of HWY 50 at the Sac CO, El Do CO line.

(Perhaps) That's Carpenter Hill(click for link). It's the highest point in Sacramento County (and the lowest high point in the state). The houses being built on it back right up to the base of the towers.

There are, however, several hills just inside of El Dorado County that have towers on them as well. Perhaps those are the ones you're thinking of?

I've done site work on Pine Hill. There's an old CDF lookout tower there (those usually show up on topo maps), and a ton of radio buildings. You get to it by going through a little town called, of all things, Rescue.

Has an awesome view of Folsom Lake. It's on the North side of Highway 50.

I'm kinda curious about the auto club freqs as well. I've seen the licenses for years, but have never heard traffic on them (San Luis Obispo area). The local AAA contract tows here all have their own radios (usually just leased time on LTR systems).
