Hearing Royal Oak Fire Dept, IN THE CLEAR, first time in 20 years. Oakland County Simulcast, 09/18/23. Talkgroup 32268. Sounds like they have a computer voice when giving out the address and nature of the run. Madison Hgts sounds like that as well. Southfield Fire is the busiest on the new system (under Fire Dept's). Oakland Co. Police dept's remain encrypted.

Was wondering why there has been virtually no new Oakland Co. FDs on the new system since the start of September. Seems like the same few and the others listed on RR do not work yet.

Just my 2 cents but it’s a gradual roll out as they install dispatch radio consoles and radios in the fire apparatus & patrol cars. It’s not a project that can be completed all at once.

I hate the computerized dispatch that Commerce Twp went to. Noisy crap to start the call, muffled voice, and the info provided has a poor S/N ratio. I hope that is not what the other agencies have gone to, too.

I have noticed Ferndale and a few others using the computerized voice. Does anyone know what the reason why this is becoming a thing and who else uses it?

It's Bryx. Its an automated alerting system tied straight to CAD. It is supposed to speed up call- received to call-dispatched time. Most depts have some flavor of it- whether it's just the mobile app, station alerting or tied into the radios. This area is the vendor's busiest geographic area in terms of number of customers. This is likely because almost everyone uses CLEMIS- so once the first agency came on board the others didn't have to pay to write a custom API. The custom API is no small expense with other vendors. Bryx is also way cheaper then the other big names in station alerting.

The audio is nowhere near that good, nor is the information that useful. As an added bonus, the dispatch starts with something that sounds like a digital feedback of an attention tone. In a nutshell, it has no redeeming qualities.

It is up to the agency to pick their alert sounds. Quality of audio will depend on the competency of the agency installer and methods used. It simplify reads selected info from CAD. If the agency does not have it configured properly, that is on them. Also, it's not a crystal ball; it can't give information that's not there. A dispatcher has to add useful information in CAD. Garbage in is garbage out.

It has plenty of redeeming qualities, most unseen to the public. It's there because the agency deems it a benefit- it's not there for your or other hobbyist's pleasure.

I'm looking at it as a firefighter, and what is useful information as the crew is heading to the truck. It gives the basics, but frequently gives unnecessary information. Often, I hear the name of the person, or alarm company, reporting the issue, including phone number.

I know that if the call taker did not, or could not, get certain bit of information, that it cannot magically be added. If the calling party's information is overtaking useful information, then there is a serious flaw. Hopefully that information is available via phone app, or on a terminal or tablet, in the apparatus.
