Hebron Leaving

Hebron has made the decision to change dispatch from "KX-Colchester" to "TN-Tolland". This change will happen sometime with in the next year. This will allow for a transition of services.

It is very hard to compare services, because there are pro's that each center offers that the other doesnt - and most of that does not come with a price.

It is a waste of money to have all those dispatch centers in the eastern part of the state.
Merge them all.....Oh wait some directors of some centers will loose their jobs.

So to do the right thing someone else has to do it first?

Now wonder our taxes are out of control.

I am implying that it will never happen. Of course it is the right thing to do.

By the way, can you tell me are they in encryption? Do you have the frequencies? ...Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yeah, as soon as south western CT makes a regional center

Why would SW CT go regional? It's probably the most dense part of the state, the least likely to require interoperability between towns which are really cities in that area, and finally, the part of the state with the most money/tax paying base so money really is not an issue. Shouldn't the town and its tax payers decide if it's worth having its own dispatch center and radio system for the public safety services it self-sufficiently funds? Combining some of the state police troops dispatch centers in the quiet corners of the state makes some sense the same way the resident troopers program makes sense in those smaller towns. Pool resources where it makes sense - not "just because."

I believe that was intended as a sarcastic comment.
It is mostly a control issue. Towns would rather spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to be able to call a dispatcher by their first name than to have efficient service. The big problem with many of the current mergers is they are being done to save money rather than improve service.

I hope your not talking about SW C-med..That place is going down the drain fast, they keep taking on new contracts but don't have the staff, 5 Full timers quit in the last 9 months...Now they are not anywhere near as bad as SC C-med but they are working that way.

With all respect Chris... you are wrong in your leading line

KX dispatch has posted a RFP to close and be absorbed by another regional center.
chris
.....
KX, as decided by the member towns, is interested in a consolidating its operations with another dispatch center and is seeking qualified organizations to submit proposals toward that goal
.
It is the intent of the KX towns and services to form such a consolidation as a group to ensure that the existing quality of services, radio coverage and mutual aid coordination remain intact.

KX has posted an RFP to CLOSE is how the RUMORS that are going around get started........ There is nothing that says KX is going to close, and be 'absorbed' . . . . .

It is an effort to see if there is a more financially responsible solution. KX received very good reviews in the "KIMBALL REPORT" - and would be a great location for some of the 'lacking' agencies to move their services to.

Perhaps a poor choice of words on my part.

When I was doing searches to try to find out more behind it I did find a quote from the First Selectman in Colchester about being concerned about the strength of the center after Hebron's departure. It mentioned being afraid the departure of one or more towns could lead to the collapse of KX.

Don't get me wrong. I am in favor of much bigger regional centers than exist now. It is just that I read much of that document as looking to protect the assets, employees, procedures, and control while "merging" with another center.

It is certainly a far more responsible way to do it if they see problems in the future as a smaller regional center than to substantially increase fees (It appeared Hebron's contribution was about 5% of the budget).
