3 people killed in helicopter crash in Price
July 19th, 2008 @ 9:09pm
(File, Hughes 500 Helicopter)

(KSL News) There was a deadly helicopter crash in Price this afternoon.

Authorities aren't telling us much tonight, but we do know that three people onboard were killed.

A dispatcher says the helicopter went down about 3:40 p.m., about a quarter-mile from the Price airport.

The Hughes 500 had just taken off after refueling when it crashed, killing all three onboard.

The chopper apparently burst into flames on impact.

We'll have more information on Eyewitness News tomorrow and on KSL.com.

Hughes 500 helicopter

Ouch! I've flown in a Hughes 500 about five times while doing excavations in Southeast Alaska. It looks like an oversized bug and holds 5 people in a squeeze. It can also sling 500-1000 lbs of gear if there are no passengers. Here's a picture of one in use: http://www.usd.edu/esci/alaska/bumper.html. The picture on the Fox site that Enos posted is not a Hughes 500.
