Hello, my boyfriend just got his first flight aeromedical job as a flight paramedic, and my biggest concern is not hearing from him hours on end and not knowing what happened. He works out of Las Cruces Intl. Airport in Las Cruces, NM. Does anyone have any advice for me? Anything helps. Thanks!

I'm sure that somebody local could probably help you. Looks like that area has an analog EDACS system. Perhaps they use that system. I'm sure that an admin will move this thread to the New Mexico forum and then you'll probably get your answer. Good luck!

They probably use several frequencies. One for dispatch, one that they talk to personnel on the ground, and one to faa services and towers. He probably can fill you on what frequencies they use. Their is an AMR listing on the Edacs system, and a listing for a medicvac on vhf conventional. From the looks of things, you could get an older scanner , like a bc 780xlt and save money as nothing in Las Cruces shows digital signals.Should be able to locate one dfor $100 to $125.

The poor girl is thoroughly confused now. Your boyfriend is the best person to advise you - he may know the frequencies that he uses all the time, whether they are to talk to the tower, ground ops, his base or whatever. As he is a paramedic, he won't be using the aircraft-to-tower radio, more likely a radio to the hospital or whatever, but it lets you keep tracks on the aircraft. Check the frequencies, buy a simple AM scanner, like the Uniden BCT8 for really cheap, get him to put the frequencies in one bank and away you go!

Listening to whatever is used to talk between the helicopter and their dispatch, if possible, should work.

You may want to, in your next post, let us know what med company he works for.
You may want to ask in the NM state forum for better answers.
