I have sent two e-mails (one should be sufficiant) to Uniden requesting my UASD registration key for my BCD396T but two days have passed with no replys. I have sent these while logged into my Uniden account. Has anyone else had to wait two days for a regstration key for free software. I cannot find a phone number to call them. My scanner is useless to me because the programming software is in demo mode and won't allow me to program trunked systems. Why do they do this, it's free software! Now going on 3 days with a useless $500.00 scanner. Thanks for the great service Uniden. Good grief !

Useless? Did yours not come with the ability to program it by hand? The manual does tell you how to do that, and it is good practice in case you ever need to program your radio in the field.

Of course there's always bcTool or Freescan for other free alternatives. There's also a Wiki page that even lists some for-pay software packages too.

Perhaps the reply e-mail got caught in a spam filter (mine did). Just some suggestions. You might want to calm down a bit, you can catch more flies with honey rather than vinegar.

You might try downloading the software again and make sure you check the option to send you a key. I think it took about ten minutes to get my key.

I just rebuilt my PC and forgot to save the old serials #'s
I got the new serial #'s at the same time I downloaded the software

Skypilot007,

I have to admit I would be pretty ticked as well. I have owned quite a few Uniden scanners and have been very loyal customer, until the last few years. I just bought a new GRE because at Uniden "nobody's been home" in more ways than one.

Just my opinion on your current dilema... I think you have already used up more energy worrying about it than it's worth. Perhaps the free Uniden software is fine for evaluating and getting to know the scanner, but I really think you will end up using some 3rd party software anyway. If there is only one key feature you have to live without, or one problem you spend 2 or 3 nights trying to fix, it just isn't worth not paying for the better software.

I'm glad you let Uniden know that you are not happy. Maybe they will have a good reason this time and maybe they wont. Either way, just move on. You have plenty other options for decent software.

Are you talking about the Key for the new firmware update, or the key for the programming software?

He said the programming software. Just go to the website and request it again, then check your spam filter if you don't have it in 15 minutes.

Yeah I know I can program it by hand but I have over 20 trunked systems with hundreds of alpha tags, not going to happen. Yeah maybe I'm getting a little excited but I needed my radio working 3 days ago. When something that should take 5 minutes to accomplish ends up taking 3 days and counting I tend to get a little excited/pissed. I'll try to download it again and see what happens.

I'm still disappointed that Uniden does not answer my e-mails. My spam filters are off and I get all the other propaganda e-mails from uniden. Perhaps I'll try the other 3rd party software but I sure hope I can copy and paste my files from UASD to it. I really don't have time right now to type all new systems. Good grief !

It is frustrating initially sometimes, however I had some crazy issues with my login and email address to the Uniden site that was threatening to prevent me from getting the new firmware update on the day it was issued. I almost had to shut everything electronic down for awhile I was so frustrated. Mr. O, the product manager for Uniden had it straightened out in 10 minutes after my intial post here. It must be hard to be everywhere at once but I was surprised to get that all ironed that fast.

Was the key not emailed to you when you got the software?
Everyone else gets it within 10 minutes (good idea another poster had to check your junk mail folder)

Or did you just email Uniden requesting a key?

UPMan has PM'd you so im sure he'll solve the problem.

Uniden, where are you?

No, that's not been my experience with Uniden. I rec'd the key almost instantly via email for my BCD996T..

I just downloaded BCTOOL tonight and I love it. Great software and easy to use. I would recommend you download that and forget UASD. And yes, you can import your .usd files into BCTOOL.

I got my key immediatly, bcTool is easy to use, but I have had it skew some of my data in the past. I made some changes to one of my systems and uploaded it to the radio and another system stopped working and it had some funky data like it was a DTRS, but the DTRS system I added worked fine, I corrected the error and re uploaded and all was ok. This has happened a couple of times. Has anyone else had bcTool issues?
