Help 780XLT Data Channel Mode, LA State System

Need help. The 780XLT works fine when copying the La. State System when I have the freqs plugged in. But I tried the data channel mode, and can't get it to operate this way.

System is Mot Type II Smartzone, and the local freqs are

852.66250 853.13750 853.58750 854.08750 855.01250 855.98750*

Again, works fine when all the channels are plugged in.

What am I doing wrong? Should I check off the status bit? Other settings? I've tried all of the settings 1-4 for the various frequency families.

im not familer with the type of scanner you own, but if i were to operate my BCT8 in the same mode by data channel. it picks up fine on the first setting. yet on my scanner, it depends on the freqs as to what setting; and each site throughout the state has different freqs.
