Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find what frequencies a church might be using for either wireless mics or in house communications between church members?

Okay thank you...I will give that a shot...I am getting some crazy interference and trying to narrow it down to eliminate it...Kinda wierd.

Also, when you go to your church, you might want to try to see what kind of radios they use. If it's a Professional Motorola radio, they won't be using FRS. If they look like the kind of radios that you see families using, and the ones that you find at Target or Wal-Mart, it's likely FRS. They also might even be using NexTel which scanners can't monitor.

For wireless mics go ask the sound guy. At my church all of our wireless mics have the freq written on them. Most are in the 40 mhz range.

Those are some old mics, our mics are 500-600MHz with a couple of VHF.

The two biggest suppliers of professional wireless microphone systems are Shure and Telex.

Here is a link to the Shure wireless microphone systems which should give you an idea where to look. The main caveat on the systems are that the microphones cannot use any frequencies used by local broadcasters.

http://www.shure.com/wireless/default.asp

Then, you will need a scanner that will receive the transmissions. Unfortunately, most scanners made today do not receive broadcast TV frequencies. The Radio Shack Pro-26 and AOR-8000 are your best bets, if you can find them.

As for the other radios in use, the larger churches will be using business radios, so, see what type of radios are being used, then do a FCC database check for the licensee.

Happy Scanning.

The frequency range of the wireless mics will either be in VHF-low band like TXFirefighter said, or the may be up in 160-161 range. The higher-end mics from Shure and Sennheiser, for example, use many of the UHF TV channels in the 560-low 700 MHz range. Most of the time, these are out of range of traditional consumer scanners. Like TXFirefighter said earlier, just ask the sound guy. Having worked as a sound tech at my church for awhile, I know I'd be glad to relay this information if asked.

Yeah, we dont use them but once a year or so. We were going to get a whole revamping of the sound system, but that costs about $150,000-200,000 which we dont have right now.
