Help! B4 I toss my 796D into the TRASH!!!!!!

I have tried everything to get my piece of junk (796D) to work right on the Phoenix/Mesa system but it still seems to not track right it keeps loosing the CC I have installed a signal amp and it works sometimes but it still cannot decode the digital correctly and i get such horrible audio or bits and pieces of it.....I did the upgrade to it and it still does not help out much at all...help Me b4 it goes into the trash bin!... a disscusted uniden owner :x

From what I've read and heard in the past year, there's nothing you can do about it and any scanners available at this time all have the same problem due to CQPSK modulation being used. All we can hope for is having an improved scanner in the future to deal with this or who knows....

Oh Ok! i only thought it was my end of use didn't do something right and such..i wish i could get my AS3 programmed to listen to them cause then it would be better?..

Why can't you?

If it does Astro IMBE and is on the right band, then it will do CQPSK with no problems.

From what I've read and heard in the past year, there's nothing you can do about it and any scanners available at this time all have the same problem due to CQPSK modulation being used. All we can hope for is having an improved scanner in the future to deal with this or who knows....

There is a DSP upgrade available for the PRO-96 that will work with the CQPSK Modulation.

Do a search on the Radio Shack website for information on it.

I know about the upgrades but I don't have a CQPSK system nearby. Like I said in my first post, I've heard of people doing the latest upgrade to the Pro-96 from Jan '04 and the latest upgrade to the Unidens from a few weeks ago and they still not getting "as good as they should be" results.

From what I can tell the problems could be combination of things like:

* RF Interference

* The systems in question

* The scanners not having as good a circuitry/error correction as the real multi-thousand $ radios

But just like most everybody else, it's just speculations and everybody has one or two....

Naaah, just go get a PRO-96 and toss that 796. (And please PM me so I can fetch it from the trash can... :lol: )

Seriously, it's a big pain to monitor these systems on either scanner. Each one has it's strengths and weaknesses. You may live near a cell tower (who doesn't around here) or in the shadow of a mountain or numerous other things that can affect 800MHz digital reception.

Try experimenting with RF modes also. I found on my 250D that the system comes in best on FM, not NFM, in fringe areas.
