****HELP**** can baofeng dmr radios be used as a scanner? ( like SDR)

HI, all im looking to find out if the baofeng radios can be programmed with the info that dsd+ gives to be used as a scanner?

I have dsd+ and have sorted out the info needed to input into the radio.
Am i able to listen to Tier 2 correctly?

Nobody seems to have this answer, they all slate the radio, but i only want it for listening in, as a scanner, there is lots of people who still scan and do not care to transmit, we are being held back by people who flood the forums by the fact that the radio is faulty.

Look at all the people who own sdr radio, we would love a dmr scanner that we can hear things without dsd+. Sadly DSD+ being closed source we are stuck to using a pc.

Soo please somebody help us out, can this do the job of a scanner after we have the info from dsd+ please?

dm-5r+
GT-3 Mark IV DMR

Baofeng scanning is very slow--about 3 channels per second, so there is no reason to try to use it as a scanner. (A Uniden scanner can scan 80 channels per second.) DSD+ is much better for scanning.

You may be able to monitor Tier II DMR from a repeater, but the DM-5R will not transmit Tier II correctly.

Don't waste your time.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, but i already have the frequencys found in dsd+ I just want to program them into the unit and listen, ( Sorry for using scanning as a reference) i should of said RX ONLY

will this unit work for RX only ?

Im looking for a Budget radio for rx on dmr only

I haven't used the DMR versions of these radios to scan, but even the analog versions are slow to scan. If you are only going to monitor a couple of frequencies it would probably be okay. I was disappointed in the overall build and quality of the analog GT-3.

I don't have one but I can answer your query. No, it won't act like a scanner because it will only pick up pre-programmed digital channels. You need to set the channels up with slot, colour code and talk group otherwise you won't hear anything.
If you want a radio that will do this look at the connect systems CS580 which has a monitor mode that will pick up any slot/cc/TG and it has a scan function (but a little limited).
Also might be worth researching the MD380 with the hacked firmware that has monitor mode (I have no experience of this though)

If you only want to scan pre-programmed digital channels then I am fairly sure the Baofeng would work.

The MD 380 is very well built. I use one for DMR repeaters.

for about the same price as a dm5r+, you can get a md 380, with firmware that allows to search for the color code being used. if you already know the slot and color code a dm5r+ will work. Mine works better in a monitor mode rather than a scanning mode. So if you have not purchased yet, you have a choice, in the low $70 for a baefeng or mid $80 for a md 380, that you can search for the color code . You have better choices for listening options. Beth radios are pc programable, and you can select do not transmit whewn setting up each channel
