Hi all

I live in Goose Creek and have a pro-2050 with a Scantenna about 15 feet up just got it all setup on Tuesday and was working great. Nice and clear then Thrusday we had bad storms come through and since i dont have it grounded yet I unhooked the scanner to save it from lightning. After the storm passed I hooked it all back up but know I am not reciving anything form the Charelston police, I have checked all the freqs to the ones here on this site and the are all right. I don't know what else to do anyone have any ideas

Thanks Jim

I had to work IN that storm at the airport. Never been so soaked in my life. My boots were still wet last night.

Maybe lightning? Maybe the coax? Maybe re-programing the talkgroups? I always like to start small and work my way up to the more complex solutions.

I would definately make an arrestor. I've known many a ham that disconnected and put the connector in a glass jar, only to come back in the shack and have the jar in a million pieces and a PL259 clear across the room. Not to mention a few thousand dollars of equipment burnt to a crisp.

The balun on the antenna [300 to 75ohm] took a hit. Disconnect the little transformer and test w/ ohm meter. You should get a reading from any point to any other point on the three connectors. If it is a new antenna and bought local have them check it. If its open then get a replacement. NOTE some of the baluns read open across the connectors. Dont buy or use one of those. The same is used on TV antennas. The old channel master 5095 used one like the scantanna. I always keep extras. Just like keeping fuses. Good Luck, Larry

Jim / Crazy Jh -

You haven't reported that you've solved or figured out your reception problem yet.

Other than Charleston, are you receiving any other agencies - conventional or trunked ? National Weather Service, paging, etc ?

Have you tried manually stepping through the frequencies you've programmed for Charleston - with the squelch turned down - to listen for the control frequency ?

Make sure you have all the control channels programmed. CPD rotates control channels every day, normally changes at 1 a.m.
