• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently purchased a used F33GS from a dealer who claimed that it has MDC signalling capabilities built in. I received the radio, it seems to work fine, however I can not program it as an "MDC LMR" model.

The radio "reads" perfectly. But when I attempt to write to it, using a list of channels and an MDC ID, I am getting a popup telling me that "Transceiver Connected Does Not Have MDC Functions." I did as the seller suggested and selected "MDC LMR" from the "Model" dropdown menu before I started entering anything into my channel list.

From my research, it appears that all F33GS transceivers should have MDC capability from the factory...is this the case? If not, how does one identify which radios do and do not have MDC signalling?

Any assistance is appreciated!

The ones with early firmware don't have MDC capability. If you email Icom support I think they will send you the firmware update for free, but you need the USB cable to do the update.

Thanks, that's also what someone told me in a PM. I will check the radio tomorrow to see which version it has. I do have the USB cable.

Maybe you should go back to the dealer that you bought the radio from, and ask him if he can update the firmware!
