I am looking to find the frequency and PL tones for the Elephant Head Volunteer Fire Department located some of Tucson. Can anyone help me out? I hear them say switch to channel 1 but can find where they are talking at. Thanks~Kos

Maybe listed under the county or a fire assn.

Channel 1 may also be simplex so little might be heard if you're not nearby.

Hello. I had some ideas that since this PDF ( http://tinyurl.com/jtkbz ) shows the Elephant Head Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. is a part of PCWIN, that maybe they are on this TRS:
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2341

If not, maybe they share channels with other Fire Agencies in Pima County:

While the Elephant Head VFD will be part of a some-day, future, PCWIN system, the reference to the TRS system will not be fruitful. The system only exists in theory, discussions, and frequencies on paper that will likely change. None of the frequencies mentioned for the PCWIN TRS are active.

Per the SouthWest Frequency Directory, volume 9, they are dispatched by Rural Metro on F7. Rural-Metro's F1 is 154.37mhz, PL 151.4, simplex. You might give that a try.

I've never heard Elephant Head VFD, but then I typically do not listen to R-M.

I'm seeing double!

"It won't give you the PL tone, but depending on what scanner you have, you can set the scanner to find the tone for you."

If you live in Arizona, have a scanner and need frequency info then you need to buy the book that is linked below this post :)

Lots of variables to look at, but you won't need a PL tone to hear anything, since you have not a selected pl to listen to. In other words, you should hear all transmitted conversations on any given channel, without difficulty. Your typical sacnner cannot be programmed to lock out PL tones anyway. Do you use an outside antenna? Raise one about 20-50 feet, and you won't miss much but what's in your wallet!
