first off.. sorry this isn't in a state fourm, but i don't know what state it is in.. trying to ID the user of 33.900Mhz, heard them strongly in missouri this evening.. it's somewhere in the eastern timezone.. possibly along the I74 area.. it's a very busy channel.. almost contasnt dispatching of medics and fire trucks to calls.. one i heard clearly was an "MVA, ROLLOVER, EJECTION, I7? (think the dispatcher said 74.. but ?) and bronx bvld."

anyone got any guesses?

oh if it helps.. this was of all things, a repeater.

Sounds like Hamilton County, OH. I hear them all the time in the spring/summer sporadic E season.

I'm here a lot
If it's the Eastern Time Zone then it will be in Indiana or Ohio.
I-74 goes through both Indianapolis and Cincinnati. These low-band freq's
are usually rural, so it could be an agency within proximity of either of the
two Metro areas , considering how busy it is.

This is my uneducated guess.

As Tom wrote, 33.90 is Hamilton County OH fire and can be heard almost anywhere in the country when the skip is in. I heard it in Belize with my Pro-92 and just the rubber duck antenna so it's a real powerhouse when conditions are right. Unfortunately, Hamilton County has switched to a digtal trunked system and it's just a matter of time until they stop simulcasting on low band so that will be another interesting catch that will go away soon. :(

Joe,

The low band frequency will be in use for at least the next six months or so but the move is already on to do page outs by MDC's. There are already digital pagers being looked at to replace the current analog pagers. At some point, the enitre system will move to digital.

OK. As for MDTs, I can't see anyone with an MDT on their belt.

As for the digital service, if they plan on using a commercial paging service, they will likely be back on 33.90 in no time. My local county tried that, and getting pages for structure fires 24 hours after the call got old REALLY fast. Not that they were all delayed that long, but some were. It also got really expensive fast. Even a 20 minute delay which was common is unacceptable.

If they are using their own dedicated digital service, it may work.

HI RPJ and readers,

Considering the strong 6M openings over the past few days and your references to the eastern time zone and the word "Bronx" I come up with the NYC area. Bronx is a boro of NYC but somehow VHF Lo Band use there is unlikely, could be downstate though.

Your reference to "I7" is a mystery and "74" is likewise, no such intersection with Bronx Blvd.

Any New Yorkers out there?

I've been hearing them loud and clear on 33.90 for the last couple of days, they are coming in real good right now here in W. Oklahoma. Definitely east coast accents.

Yep. Unless there's another Bronx Blvd, fire operations in the borough of the Bronx in NYC are on VHF-hi. Last time NYC used VHF-lo we were all using tunable scanners.

How about I-76 in PA? There's a few users on 33.90 that are on I-76. Here's the link: http://www.pahighways.com/exits/I76exits.html I didn't see a bronx blvd, though.

33.9000 is used in PA by Lancaster County, York County, & Lebanon County as a Pager Dispatch Ch.

I-76 is in all 3 Counties.

I-76 & SR 117 is in my area of Lebanon County.

I was born and raised in the Bronx and as stated, there is no I74 intersection.
There are names (Burke Avenue,Mace Avenue for example) then the further north you go on Bronx Blvd. the intersections go to numerics (East 211th street thru East 243 street) which is the end of Bronx Blvd --as you then cross into the next county (Westchester), which has no Bronx Blvd numeric or otherwise.

There are 2 points that I want to bring up for the forum 1) "the voices heard were definitely from the east"--hey we all sound alike from NY and 2) I wonder is the I74 mentioned is a radio code not an intersection.???
