Hi,

In my 70's now, and will blame it on that.
But, gosh, there really must be a simpler way that Uniden can implement ?

a. Absolutely cannot seem to download the instructions for the latest Firmware.

Could someone please just post it here in a reply to this, as a simple text document, or something I can read ? I've given up trying to get it from their site. It can't be all that long, or is it ?

b. Just want to double check:
I did download, apparently, V 3.00.00 a file called BC_VUP_ V 2.0.0.3

Is this what I want to install as the latest ?

c. Is this the only file that was updated now ? Just this single Folder (which I havened opened yet) ?

Much thanks for the trouble; really appreciate it.

Im guessing your using a 396T
http://www.uniden.com/files/BCD396T_V3_Update_Information.pdf

The basics..
You need to be on at least V1.20.13 if not V2 already.
You need a my Uniden log in so that you can get the registration key to update.
Once you have downloaded the V2.0.0.3 you install or extract it. You also need to extract/unzip the V3.00.00)
You run V2.0.0.3 (the UPDATE FILE) then when its ask for the file you locate your V3 firmware (V3.00.00 - this is different from the V2.0.0.3)

The following files are required for this update:
1 - BC_VUP_v2.0.0.3.exe – this is the firmware updater software. If you have installed a previous version, this
will automatically replace that version.
2 - BCD396T_V3_00_00.zip – this is the firmware load for your scanner

1. If you have not previously installed BC_VUP V2, download and install it now.
2. Download and unzip BCD396T_V3_00_00.zip to your computer.
3. Go to your product page at My Uniden and click “Get Registration Key” next to your scanner. A
registration key will now appear along with your other scanner information. Make a note of this key
(or keep that window open so you can refer to it). The key is specific to the scanner you’ve selected.
Note that this key will be different from the key used for the Version 2.x update.
4. If this option does not appear, you need to update your records to include your scanner’s ESN and
ESN checksum, which can be found on your scanner by MENU Settings See Scanner
Info Firmware Version. If The ESN and ESN checksum do not appear, you need to update your
scanner to Version 1.20.13 prior to applying this update.
5. Run BC_VUP and select the V3.00.00 update file you saved in Step 2.
6. When prompted, select the correct COM port and the desired transfer speed, then click in the check
box labeled “Enable Major Version Up” and enter the registration key we provided for that scanner.
7. Click OK and the update will be applied.

The specific steps depend on what version you have. In general, the process is the same as what kris posted if you are going from V2 to V3. If you are going from V1 to V3 there are some minor differences. All the instructions are included with the release notes that are on the same d/l page as BC_VUP and the other files.

Since you just said you couldn't download the instructions, I have no idea how to help you fix it. What happened when you tried to download the instructions?

From OP Again

Hi,

When I tried to download the Instructions, my PC just had the small circular arrows going around and around showing it was trying to download something, but after 15 minutes or so I gave up.

I presently have vers. 2.00.06 installed

Ok, then you just need to

1. Log in at www.uniden.com/my
2. Click on "Get Registration Key" next to the scanner you are updating.
3. After you get the key, click on "Get V3 Firmware"

On the resulting page, download the BCD996T_V3_00_00.zip, BCD996T V3 Update Information.pdf, and BCD996T V3 Instructions.pdf.

If you have a version of BC_VUP earlier than 2.0.0.3, then you need to download that, too.

The instructions are in the instructions file, but in case you are still having problems getting it, next:

1. Run the BC_VUP installer (if you need to).
2. Unzip the firmware file to some place you'll be able to find.
3. Run BC_VUP and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, be sure to enter the registration key provided for that scanner (it will still be on your "All My Scanners" page if you need to retrieve it).

We've had intermittent issues the last two days with slow connect speeds. If you have a problem downloading something, give it a few minutes then try again.

Sorry I assumed you had the 396T (of course being my luck you had the 996)
Follow Paul's instructions and you should be fine.

Should be fairly easy to go from V2 -> V3 (was worried youd have to go from V1 -> V3 thats harder)
