hello. I have a pro 528 radioshack. 137-174mhz works fine, 800mhz works fine. I can't hear anything at 400mhz. there is a lot of 400mhz activity in my city but it does not pick up anything. It does not grab anything or hitting a baofeng to the scanner

Where is your city? The Pro 528 is an analog-only receiver. Is said 400mhz activity analog?
Yes, everything is analog in my city. placing a baofeng near the pro 528 it doesn't pick it up, it doesn't pick up anything at 400mhz. picks up 800mhz very well, 137-174 very well. only 400mhz frequency doesn't pick it up at all

scanners were not meant or built for a transmitter to be right next to it.
commercial stuff, yes, that is part of the reason they cost more.
go into the next room if you want to do that.
and since you now have a problem, you might have the answer.

I did it. it doesn't even pick up 400mhz frequencies in my area. I have firefighters and police in my area that transmit at 400mhz but the scanner does not pick up, but the baofeng does pick up the frequencys. I don't know if it's a scanner problem

yes, i could now be deaf on the 400 band.
scanners were meant to pick up stuff that is 1 millionth of a volt or so.
it is called overload.

i still use older radios for slower stuff and even use a pro2001 for state forestry and the space station.
i bought that around 1980.
it just developed a squelch problem, but after over 40 years of everyday service, it can do what it wants.
