This coming weekend, I am going to be attending the Indy 500 race. At the last moment I bought a new Uniden BR330T so that I can listen to the coversations between the drivers and their pit crews. I will be using my Bose sound canceling headphones to hear the conversation above the noise of the race.

I have now programmed the frequencies for the 6 drivers I want to follow. (Perhaps because I am completely new to scanners, but I thought this project had a pretty steep learning curve!)

Is there a way that I can listen to the local AM coverage of the race for the majority of the time, with that coverage being interrupted by the scanner detecing talk by 1 of my 6 racers and allowing me to listen to that talk?

This is all new to me, but since I have been a HAM for years, I am really enjoying it.

Thanks for your help. Sam

Hi Ray,

Thank you so much for the information. Have I got this right? I will first program the AM station in Indianapolis that will be broadcasting the INDY 500. Then, for each of the race driver frequencies, I will will set them to PRIORITY. The only problem I see, according to the manual at page 54, if I set the driver frequencies to PRIORITY ON, "the scanner interrupts every 2 seconds and checks the priority channels." Does that mean I will hear the AM coverage, but it will be interrupted every 2 seconds?

WOW, it sounds like you are really into scanners! Since this is all new to me, it is like discovering a whole new aspect to HAM radio. I am already thinking about which antenna to put on my roof.

I do have a few years on you. I am 57 and retired. This gives me lots of time to play with my hobbies. My call is KK6BT, as you know, it is an advanced license. But, it was not too hard for me to pass the exams (except for the code) because I have a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Thanks again for the inforation and, I look forward to hearing from you again.
