• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I live in the Farmersville area of Montgomery County Ohio. My (small) home area uses simulcast for fire and police communications. I have both the SDS-100 and SDS-200. I believe they are programmed correctly (though I rarely, if ever see my home area mentioned). My wife is awesome and she bought me a Unication G4 since the Farmersville FD uses it. Unfortunately, I have found that programming it is a chore. Even with the ability to use RadioReference to import frequencies, I am having no luck. I am aware that the G4 is a pager that is used to monitor. I would appreciate any assistance to get it up and running.

Thank you!

I found a site in Montgomery CO that's listed as Dayton. Looks like it will cover your city. It appears there's a boatload of things In that county alone that's open and ready to be received. What part exactly are you having problems with on the G4. Are you actually receiving things on the SDS scanners and your area not being mentioned or are you not hearing it period.

Thank you for replying! I think my issues begin with not having the correct frequencies for my Unidens (which I brought in via RR for the G4). My home and nearby fire/pd are dispatched from Englewood. I have the the Marcs frequencies programmed, as well as the local ops channels. I realize that this the town is small as well as the surrounding area, but I'm not hearing anything specific locally and I never see any traffic on my local frequencies on either scanner. As far as the G4 goes, those frequencies aren't doing anything.

According to the notes in the RR database, "The only fire departments in Montgomery County remaining on VHF are Farmersville and New Lebanon." So listening to MARCS wouldn't bring in comms, and a G4 won't work on VHF. Be sure the TAGS are active in the SDS (see far right below).

As for law enforcement they would either be on MARCS tower 1-005 Dayton or 4-003 Montgomery, I'd try both. The talkgroup shows they aren't encrypted, so just be sure you have all the proper TAGS turned on in the SDS scanner (Law Dispatch, Law Tac, etc) which you can find in the database on the far right.

@jsb1964 I will recommend you click on the REPORT button lower left corner of your first post and ask this be moved to the Ohio forum where there may be people in the area who can help you more. Also in the future if you have a question about the G4 it should go in the UNICATION forum.

Please do not start a new thread in the Ohio forum, the mods will be happy to move this, and double posting is discouraged in the forums. Good luck
