We have an IC 7000 hf/vhf/uhf transciever. It came with a signal link unit and we were trying to get it to communicate with WSJTX with no luck "HAMLIB ERROR".....is there a list of settings in that particular radio that need to be adjusted to use for FT8/wsjtx? We cant seem to find documentation for that particular radio although it is available as an option under radios in wsjtx.

A SignaLink is not a radio interface for computer control of a radio. If all you have between your computer and your radio is the SignaLink, your computer has no way to control the radio. SignaLinks are only sound card interfaces for passing audio signals. If you tell WSJT-X that you are controlling your IC-7000, WSJT-X will complain because there's no connection to the radio.

The SignaLink has a VOX circuit. When it sees incoming audio from your computer, the VOX circuit keys the radio PTT. That's the extent of a SignaLink's ability to control the radio.

You might do some Googling for running WSJT-X with your set-up. I'll bet someone has done it before.

I've got a 7000 that I used for digital many years ago. But, since then it's been permenently mounted as a mobile in my vehicle. I plan to try digital from the car with my laptop some day but haven't got around to it.

In order to control the radio, (as AK9R points out) you need to connect it to your computer. One inexpensive way is to pick up a USB to CI-V adapter. Plug it in to the jack on the back of your radio (circled in red below).

You don't need the prgramming software.. Just get the cable. (Although it's nice to be able to program the radio from your computer.)

Then you'll have to get your computer to recognize it as a pseudo COM port and set the Baud rate in the radio to match the baud rate of the COM port.

SOLVED. It was the typical audio issue. The right choice in pulse audio control was partially hidden due to screen resolution of the laptop. SOLVED.
