Hello,
I am trying to get a scanner and dont know what to get. I am a EMT and I would like to listen to whats going on... :) I want to listen to TRAA (aka AMR) I know they are on 800 Mhz but I dont really now what that means... I am looking at a AOR AR1000XLT Wide Range Monitor on ebay. Would that do the trick? Does anyone have any pointers on what I should buy? I can't afford the $300 + scanners. Im still trying to finish my paramedic degree :) Thankyou for your help

Welcome to RR and the scanning hobby. The bad news is the AOR you mentioned cannot do what you want. I know you mentioned you cannot afford a $300+ scanner but you will need a digital trunking scanner according to the database for Allen county. Those will put you at the $500 range.

If you look at the database - http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2995 - you can see Allen County public saftey uses an 800 MHz trunked system and is digital for almost all communication.

Your best luck might be a find a Radio Shack that is closing and that hasn't already been wiped out and pick up a digital scanner. http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...cp=&origkw=pro-96&kw=pro-96&parentPage=search

FYI - only Uniden and Radio Shack have digital trunked scanner for consumers.
