My name is Ron also, so you be Ron1. This does sound as you know you stuff. It seems like

This might be what I need to add to the radio. Do you have any program experience using the Home Patrol and adding things. Thanks Ron2

They should already be in your HP (provided you have an up-to-date database) under:

USA --> New Jersey --> Morris --> County Systems --> Morris County Public Safety --> Law Enforcement

.

They are there but I just can't get them. Either too far or a mountain is in the way. How to boost the signal? Thanks Ron

Thread moved to New Jersey forum since this is a local issue not a database issue.

Trunking doesn't work that way. With some exceptions, once a conversation gets going, it may jump from frequency to frequency. The exceptions are those that are dedicated patches into a trunk system, such as is used here in Maryland - a particular VHF frequency (used for fire dispatch, in this case) is patched to one and only one talkgroup.

If a mountain is in the way, an amplifier isn't going to help - and if it's too far away, a better antenna is needed (there are, however, practical limits to the distance a UHF digital signal will travel, especially in hilly terrain such as found in your neck of the woods).

I'm certain the cops there have similar issues, and probably depend on a particular site (even though they may not know about it) to be able to get into the trunk. A little research - perhaps on the sites listed in the database - might be in order. Then you can buy (or build - there are many plans out on the net) a UHF yagi antenna to point to that site. That would likely greatly increase the reliability of the signal reaching you. And remember, particularly here, height is key - the more you can get over the obstructions, the better.

The closest site to Darticus is Jefferson.
Maybe a UHF Yagi pointed in that direction may help?

I had someone with an HP scanner having difficulty scanning the Morris system since it is linear simulcast. He upgraded to a 436 and it worked fine.

If you know someone with a 436 or 536 that can test from your location that might be a viable solution also. My 436 decodes the system fine but I am only about 6 miles from the nearest site.

I do get Jefferson and if I take the HP down to Pathmark with the rubber ducky I get Dover,
