• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Tonight I heard some kind of encrypted and/or digital traffic on 155.43 which I have labeled THP in my Uniden 796D. I know it used to be some kind of West Tennessee THP repeater channel used to repeat the Memphis and other West Tennessee counties. Anyone heard this before? It still shows as THP in the RR FCC database.
Thanks.

Re:

Unless THP is starting to use digital equipment on VHF-hi like TWRA, I'd say you're hearing distant traffic riding a nice duct or other enhancing phenomenon. 155.430 is still used by THP in eastern Tennessee for "Hi-Band" although it's usually for back-up during the frequent break downs of their ancient lo-band system. Shame, because the Hi-band works and sounds so much better. I'm a big fan of the TWRA 159MHz digital system...it works better than anything else the state has.
