Since late June, I've been hearing a mixture of kerchunks, tones, and some unintelligible voice on GMRS channel 18, 462.625 MHz, with a TPL of 151.4 Hz. I've heard this from as far north as Tinton Falls down to Beachwood, so it seems to be a pretty decent machine. I reached out to JCAES to see if this machine is associated with them, as they operate a repeater on the same frequency in Toms River, but they confirmed it isn't. I did throw out my callsign on it a few times and asked if anyone was monitoring, but haven't gotten any reply. It appears to be running on Motorola hardware as it uses a proper Motorola Reverse Burst, as well. Does anyone know anything about this system or who maintains it? Thank you.

Not sure of the intent of the question. If so motivated and able, an RDF, radio direction find effort is a rather simple matter, as long as you are able to key the machine. It appears you can. RDF’ing can be fun!
