I thought I was a pretty experienced scannist until I unpacked my Uniden 396T last night. First instinct: return it and take my licks with the restock fee. Anyone in the Reston area who is experienced with PC programming these units?

Had it hooked up to my Dell with the RadioRef. freqs ... got nowhere.

thanks for not poking fun -- just lost a daughter and find i dont have thepatience to wade through this stuff.

First off, sorry for your loss. To answer your question, yes the 396T is a step up in knowledge and I will admit when I first got it I was a bit taken back even with using scanners for 12+ years. My solution was to spend the $$ and buy Butel's Arc 396 Software and program my radio with that. It is a very easy to use package that will get your radio up and running pretty quickly. To me it was worth every penny I spent on it and it saves me lot's of time programing my radio.

SMarhsall:

I would suggest you also make a post in the Virginia forum, as we have quite a few NoVA members over there. One of them might be able to give you the help that you need.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I'm over here in Ashburn. If you want we can meet up somewhere and i can clone my over to yours with the wireless clone feature. PM me to setup the details if you wish. I also have the Butel ARC396 software t6oo and it's basically pick and click with the scanner. Making it very easy to program.
