I am new to scanning. I have ARC300 software and a PRO164. I have programmed the scanner with frequencies from RR.com and am still not picking up too much and most transmissions are brocken or I cannot follow the whole "conversation". I do think I have the frequencies correct. I am wondering if this is a trunking system and if so how do I get the scanner programmed properly to pick up all communcations.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Porter County is NOT a trunk system. I live in Lake county, and monitor Porter sometimes, Lately I have not been hearing too much from the Sheriff, but Porter fire and all the local PD's are still very active. What antenna are you using? The most important part of any scanner IS the ANTENNA! Get it outside, and get it up high!
I would suggest trying this for programming: http://www.starrsoft.com/software/win97/default.asp

Thanks for the reply. I have the 800mhz antennae recommended by radio shack. Im not sure I can get an antennae for the pro164 handheld. I fsso please let me know.

Can you post a file with your frequencies for Porter and Lake county so I can make sure I have everything?

Very much appreciated!

The first thing I would do is get rid of that 800Mhz antenna, there is nothing in Lake and Porter on Safe-T or a trunked system, with the exception of Hammond and East Chicago.

Maybe give this antenna a try, this is what I use on my Pro-97, and it works GREAT: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103159

All the frequencies I listen too can be found here: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=737
And here: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=756

I really don't listen to Porter county all that much. except the fire department, which is always busy, I only listen to the Sheriffs and the local PD when I'm making a local delivery, but I did lock onto the Porter Sheriffs at home here in Lake county just to make sure and the Porter county Sheriffs have been pretty active, so it appears they haven't switched over to the Safe-T system yet.

I hope this help, feel free to ask if you have anymore questions, I'll do my best to help, and if I cant help, some of the Geniuses here sure can.

State Police is on the Safe-T system, you will need a digital scanner for that, but you can still hear some exciting stuff on Point to point, and I.L.E.E.N those frequencies are: 155.3700 (Point to Point), and: 155.4750 (I.L.E.E.N)
Not sure if I can attach my .P97 file, can't seem to figure it out, if you want to PM your email address I can send it, but you will need the WIN97 program to open it.
Any other questions feel free to post or PM.
