• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Hello,

Im new to the scanner scene and just got a Pro-97, Im pretty excited about it and just the default first scan had me listeing to the local PD at work. Im wanting to add my home PD/Fire etc and I have found on the web the info I need. Im just stuck on adding it into the Win97 for the scanner. I got the frequency part easy enough, but its the whole DEC HEX part that im stuck, I dont know where to put this. I know im just missing something simple but I also know that 3 local PDs use these same frequencies so i have to put the "extra" info in there to hear only what I want to hear. I have added a partial copy of the info below. Can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me how to create the following enty into Win97?

System Name: Plano Public Safety

It should be set up like this using DEC
Code:
Plano Police 00048
Plano Police 00400
Plano Police 00432
Plano Police 00464
Plano Police 00496
Plano Police 00528
Plano Police 00560
Plano Police 00592
Plano Police 00624
Plano Police 00656
You can use any alpha text to reference what the numbers mean.
The best way to do this is to become a "Premium Subscriber" of this site and take advantage of the web import function in WIN97.
You may also want to look at the Collin County and Wylie trunked systems, depending on your location.

Thanks guys, you have guided me down the right path. I was close on the entering of data but was missing a couple of steps, in looking at the screenshot and opening the p97 file I think I got the nudge I was needing.

What kind of distance can you expect from the stock antenna? Im 26mi from home at work and in a tall building, no windows in my office, every once in a while I will here some slight static/talkin but mostly silence, is this just too far with cheap antenna and inside building? When I go home I can prolly answer this myself if it starts working but thats still a few hours away.

800mhz does not work well inside buildings. If you're going to be listening to mostly 800mhz coms, you should get the 800mhz 'rubber duckie' for it.
