Me and my brothers are looking to get my Mom a Scanner for her Birthday. She used to have one and now I hear they are illegal in Canada. That is not the problem for us getting one. The problem is I want to know which ones work here. What models are good. We are looking to spend about 250.00 Canadian dollars.
Can somebody please let me know.
Thank you very much!!
If your mom just wants to scan for frequencies and not just listen to the police service then even the bear cat bc60xlt is a good scanner.
This scanner is located in your local wallmart. I picked mine up for around that price. Its a very good easy to use scanner. Although it lacks the features and the power of its more expensive counter parts, I found that there was a lot that I could listen too.
Like...
EMS/OPP/PS (Police servises are VERY limited and must be in analog.)
security
Taxi'sh
1-800Beer
Towe Drivers.
Ham Radio Operators
Cell phones and cordless phones
baby talkers.
If she is a heavy listenner (and believe me it doesn't take long to get sucked in the world of scanning.) Then a digital scanner would be your best bet. However, they are very pricy. Expect to spend around the $600 +CAD for one of those puppies!
Scanning is not illegal in canada and radar detectors are only illegal in the easetern provinces.
Mainly, Ontario, Qubec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotica, P.E.I and Newfoundland.
