I just purchased a UNIDEN BC72XLT, and from what i have been reading this is not the scanner for me. Since I would like to listen to the PD-FD etc.

What scanner should be I looking at to listen to the police-fire etc
There isn't too many places around here that sell scanners, where are you buying them??

Thanks in advance

Check the database under Simcoe County, Ontario.

Unfortunately, you're pretty much out of luck.

Barrie PS and FS are APCO25 as well as the OPP.

MOH is on the BMR Fleetnet system and I'm pretty sure you're scanner won't track that.

You will be able to enter in the mobile repeaters for the OPP and MOH as well as the surrounding fire deparments and South Simcoe Police.

Those are pretty much the only two I've dealt with in Canada. Of those two, I've had better experiences with Durham. They're also the ones that are more likely to sell you a digital scanner without any hassle about licenses.

I bought my 296 and 396 from Radioworld and there was no hassle about a licence I even asked them and they said "you do not need a Licence because there is no such thing".

If you're in Barrie then the answer is no.

You need a digital scanner.

Yeah, the upfront price of some of these is steep, no doubt. That range you mention is in-Canada prices before taxes. You could get a good used model for less; or even new from the US will usually save money.

I find that if people really like a hobby they'll spend the money on it. Most hobbies in the end will cost, and you often get out what you put in. So it's up to you to decide what your limits are, but there are some options.

It may have it's limitations but check out the area specific public safety at this
link.

Your scanner can "get" all those Fire Dept's (except for Barrie)

Hmm... you just purchased a BC 72XLT but not many places sell scanners... where
did you buy yours ?

When I bought my scanner it came with no instruction Manual, They were supposed to give me one today but I never had time to go get it. So I don;t even know how to use it..

Frequency Type Tone Description Mode
153.74000 R 173.8 PL Fire FM

My scanner only holds a 6 digit number. does that mean my scanner wont pick up this feed?

It means that some people like to make things look uniform. Just program 153.74 into it.

Is there any difference between $1 and $1.00, other than accuracy?

stp72,

I would hope that you are going to return that sanner you got from 'the source' before the return time expires, so you can enjoy your new digital scanner when it arrives and have it half paid for by the return money...

I must say the only thing about buyig from the source would be an expected good return policy qllowing some fre scanner use, but have not checked it.
