Help needed

I'm in Saskatoon. I just purchased an Alinco DJ-X2000 scanner. Can anyone out there Please give me some advice on how to program this scanner properly. Any feed back would be much apreciated.

What services or agencies did you want to monitor?

The Saskatoon PD and Fire are on a Motorola trunked system, while MD Ambulance is on the SaskTel Fleetnet EDACS trunked system. You should have a trunktracker to monitor these agencies, and I don't think the DJ-X2000 follows trunked systems. Monitoring the trunked system with a conventional scanner (like the DJ-X2000) will be difficult, but not impossible.

Thank you for your response. You are correct it is a 0.1 to 2150 mhz Multimode Receiver. Can anything be done do use it as a dual truncking scanner or I should sell it and purchase a Pro-96.

I do not believe you can use the DJ-X2000 for trunk tracking. It is not a trunk tracking scanner. Some scanners can be remotely controlled by Trunker (software that monitors a trunked system through a second scanner and a discriminator tap), but I do not believe Trunker can control the DJ-X2000.

The PRO-96 would be a good choice for monitoring the Saskatoon City Motorola trunked system, as well as the Fleetnet EDACS system for MD Ambulance. The RCMP are on conventional VHF, so no problem there with any scanner.

Bear one thing in mind though. The Saskatoon PD is presently analog, but have digital radios in their cars. They haven't switched to digital, but they might switch anytime. The PRO-96 will monitor the digital traffic, unless the Saskatoon PD goes the extra step of adding encryption. No one knows yet if they will encrypt all of their transmissions. If they add encryption as well as going digital, then you will not be able to monitor them.

If that's not a problem, then the PRO-96 is a good investment. Personally, even if the Saskatoon PD were encrypted, I think there is enough activity with Saskatoon FD and MD Ambulance to keep you busy. But, each person is different.
