To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.
If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

First you're going to need, a RIB (cable and box) and the RSS programming software. Then you're going to have to program the talkgroups with the wrong connect tone and an invalid radio ID. This way you won't affiliate with the system. With the GTX I don't believe you need the system key. That's only for the JEDIs. (Don't hold me to this though.) You'll also need the SysID. Ifyou don't know what you're doing, then have someone else do it for you. If you want more info go to www.batlabs.com

Connect tones are only used to hold a voice repeater open. It's like a pl tone. It has nothing to do with affiliation. Programming the wrong connect tone in will still allow the radio to fully transmit on the system including affiliations. He'll be able to push the ptt and get a channel access grant. The only thing he can't do is keep the voice repeater up as he's got the wrong connect tone.
I'm also kind of wondering how he would know what an invalid radio id is for the system? You're also assuming that the system admin has turned on radio id checking. Big assumption that could seriously screw him.

Well I don't claim to be an expert but right next to me is an MTX 8250 programmed with the wrong connect tone and Radio ID. If I key up, the radio just stops trunking. I did this next to a scanner tuned to the same talkgroup and nothing happened. As far as I can tell the radio is not affiliating. Like I said I don't know for sure if the GTX works the same way. Also as far as I know (I didn't program this radio) the system key was not needed. Now this is as much as I know, and this info is what my reply depended on. Now I'm going to leave this thread alone since I'm really not an expert, and don't want to be treated like a criminal.
What's actually happening is the radio is programmed for affiliation on ptt. It will not try to affiliate until you press the ptt button. Once you press the ptt button, the controller sees the request and possibly rejects it if you have indeed picked an invalid radio id and the admin has turned the security on.
If the system admin sees these keyups, it's possible he will inhibit your radio. Having the wrong connect tone and an invalid radio id won't save you.

What system are you trying to program for. Since you only want to monitor, GTX has limited scan list, no alpha etc. Unless its some podunk system you would probably get a lot more service out of a decent scanner such as pro 93-95 or Bearcat.

I took my authorized, issued trunking radio and fired-up my frequency counter next to it. Turned the radio on...nothing. Changed the channel....nothing. Keyed it up and got a reading on the FC...then the dispatcher asked me if I was secure!
I'm sure if the radio is programmed to affiliate upon being turned-on, it would do so. If it is not, it would appear that it acually doesn't!
Anyway....

My radio affiliates on PTT. And BTW, when I key the radio, the controler doesn't give me a channel access. So I'm not concerned. It's very posible that the person who programmed the radio, did more then what meets the eye. And no he didn't disable the PTT.

If this was a Smartzone system, you would have no choice and "auto affiliate" would be the only option. Upon turning the radio on or changing channels, you would have caught a small blip on the frequency counter every time.

Second, when you transmit on the control channel, the transmission is not assigned to a talk group until the controller does it. You are sending the TG info, but it must be assigned, so this does not mean you were not affiliating, it just means the controller denied your request or it could mean you were not affiliating. Either way, it was an illegal transmission subject to severe penalty.

No matter how you look at it, it is not a radio that is authorized to be on the system. All the system manager has to do is if he see's an invalid ID, or a possible duplicated ID,is go to the system manager tools and completely disable that radio and render it into a paper weight. I have the ability to monitor my system for illegal radios, and with the stroke of a key, I can disable or enable any radio on my system. If that radio happens to be out of range, or turned off, the system will wait until it attempts to affilliate and then *Bang*....dead radio
