hello,

I have a SDS100 that im trying to program my local ham repeater so I can hear them talk. I'm a little confused on how to setup the repeater frequency using ARC536PRO. The repeater has a frequency of 147.2850 with an offset of +0.6 MHz. I know that to mean that in order to hit the repeater you must transmitt to the repeater on 147.8850. The repeater also has a TONE UP of 107.2

When setting up the repeater in ARC536PRO do I put the tone on the 147.8850 (TX to repeater) line or the 147.2850 (RX from Repeater)?

see attached image of what I have programmed at the moment until I hear from you guys.

"The repeater has a frequency of 147.2850 with an offset of +0.6 MHz" 147.2850 is what I would program as the repeater output. Usually there will be a SQ code on output and input. In rare cases, only the input might have a code. You will just have to try.

This repeater only has a tone up I just asked one of the guys who uses it regularly. He is unsure how to program it in a sds100 tho

You can just program 147.285 to hear the repeater. The tone isn't really required to receive it. The tone can help if you have any interference.

Unless, as is the case here, there IS no output tone. If you put a tone on the entry when there isn't one, you won't hear anything!

@Ronnierozier2 all you need is one entry: The output frequency (147.2850) with no tone and FM mode. The only time you program the input frequency in for a repeater is if you are trying to see if anyone nearby is transmitting into it. (That goes for public safety repeaters too.) Don't forget to enable "Ham" as a service type too.

In your programmed sample, you have the tone in the wrong place. It should be in the box after transmit, not after receive. Unless there is a repeater with the same frequency close enough to also be heard, tones are not needed on a receive only device like the SDS100.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. attached is the info from repeaterbook.com that shows the repeater. Looks like its a tone up so should i just add the tone to the TX line 147.885 ? Thats if I want to hear the uplink to the repeater? Maybe I should only program the repeater and not the uplink frequency with tone.....

If you want uplink, then program it as a separate entry using the uplink freq as the receive freq. For receive only, that's all a scanner can do, I would not use a tone setting for uplink or downlink!

Unless you have a specific reason you want to listen to the input frequency (in which case you will only hear nearby stations) then just program the repeater's output frequency without a tone.

I'm assuming you currently monitor public safety or other radio systems, and that's exactly what your scanner is doing ... listening to the repeater output frequency only.

I see what you mean. I think what im going to do is just program the repeater and leave the tone on "searching".

Yes i listen to MSWIN P25 phase 2 public safety traffic around me. I just wanted to be able to listen to the local ham repeater. I have a few Baofeng handhelds but I didnt want to be forced to get that radio out just to listen to ham's. I wanted to consolidate the public safety trunked system with the ham's on my SDS100.

Thanks everyone for all the great information and help you have provided. I will program and report back!
