Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8530/5.0.0.886 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I have a motorola maxtrac 16ch UHF radio, the dos program for it and the cable. I also have a computer running dos. The question is do you have to put the radio into a programming mode like some other radio? And if so how do you do this. Any help would be great. Thanks

no, the maxtrac just hooks up and reads. your software has to be as new or newer than the firmware in the radio, and unless you bought a ribless cable you need a rib box. you also need a real comport, not a USB com port adapter as they don't work in DOS.

if it won't read, go under F9 computer setup and change the speed. i forget the exact term, but it is to change how fast the computer tries to talk to the unit. usually slowing it down corrects read/write errors. i've used the Maxtrac software with everything from an old 8088 to a 1.2ghz machine, ideal operation is a 286 or 386 machine but any of them will work so long as it is true dos and not a window.

A rule of thumb for Motorola programming:

If it is a DOS based software (MRSS), use a SLOW computer in DOS (not a dos window or shell).
If it is a Windows based software (CPS), use a Windows based computer (speed really doesn't matter).
