To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My department has received several of the APX7500 radios to operate on the MOSWIN system here in Missouri. We have the programming software (APX CPS Version R08.02.00) & the cable.

I have programmed several cp series radios in the past & feel I have a good understanding but I have to admit, I am lost in this program.

What I am trying to do is add a conventional zone that consists of our local VHF channels. I can add the zone just fine but can not figure out how to add the actual frequencies, pl tones, ect.

Anyone using this that can point me in the correct direction?

Create a conventional personality. Under that personality you will find a selection for frequency options. Thats where the individual channels go. If you are using MDC or signaling it gets more complicated. Now point you zone assignment to that conventional personality and frequency option.

Of course there is a lot more to configuring the radio but that is where the frequency selection is.

The APX CPS is one of the more frustrating things to come from Motorola (a good source of frustration generally) in quite a while. The software bears little resemblance to the Astro25 CPS with which most of us have become familiar (and which has a bunch of productivity features not carried forward on the new package).

But, to answer your question, channel data for conventional channels is now carried within a conventional personality. Define a personality and you'll be given a screen by which to add specific channels. Then back to the zone/channel screen, point to a personality, and then you'll be given a drop down list of the channels within that personality from which to pick one. Kludgy in extremis.

That helped. I am making progress. Another question. I have created my conventional personality, added my channels (8 of them), went back to zone/personality & added my zone. Question is, once I do this, do I need to add a position & select the conventional frequency for all 8 channels or just add one position & select my personality?

Thanks!

Within your new zone, create 8 channels. Each will point to the conventional personality that contains your 8 sets of channel data, but each will point to a different channel data set within that personality.

On your APX CPS install disk is a set of tutorials. They aren't very deep, but reviewing them will cover things such as this and at least get you started.

Hello, your advises are really help me too. Thank a lot !

I'm trying to connect the speaker to the radio to use the PA mode but I don't hear the sound when I talk to micro handset with PTT pressed. I hear the Alert sound output to speaker as normal and each time changing menu button also. Please help.

If I have 2 radios (same model), I have to program the same way to let them communication together on the same channel ?

I don't quite understand the question.

In order for Radio 1 and Radio 2 to be able to talk to one another, each must be selected on a channel that has the same channel parameters (freq or freq pair, tone, etc.). This doesn't require that the two radios be programmed identically in all respects, but each must contain the same channel somewhere in order for the radios to talk over that channel.

OK, that channel should be programed the same frequency on both radios if i understand well.
APX7500 is the "2 in 1" radio. Does that mean, when we are talking on micro with PTT (handset) at freq F1 (UHF), in the same time, we can heard (receiver) other call from other channel (VHF, freq. F2, for example) ??? Anyone has tested this function ? Thanks
