To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got an Icom F2000 UHF portable with 128 channels/8 zones it has the 16 channel knob with no display or DTMF keypad. For some reason the Zone key option isn't working so it won't allow me to get to the other channels in the 7 other Zones (8 zones total) I know they are there though because when I do scan/start stop it scans all the agencies in there and I can hear them all and the programming software shows them and how many channels I have available. It just has 2 function keys on the side under the PTT button and the emergency button which can be reprogrammed to anything. I tried programming the side option keys to the channel up channel down and the emergency key to Zone as per the instruction manual I found doing a Google search you press Zone then channel up channel down to select the Zone but it's not working. I have been pulling my hair out with this for the past 3 days trying to get it working.
Any help would definitely be greatly appreciated in how to program this to get the Zone function working so I can select other Zones.
Thank you so much in advance. This has been driving me crazy.

Looking at documents on the F2000 without a display is only 16 channels. Guess that is why you can't access any other zones.

The ones with displays are 128 channels.

I just opened my F2000 software, this is what the guide states [plus I looked in the owners manual to double check]:

Zone
  • Zone
//only for the Simple (4-key) type and 10-key type transceivers //

Push to enter the Zone selection mode, and then push [CH Up] or [CH Down] to select a desired Zone.

You need the F2000S [display, 4 buttons, no keypad] or the F2000T [display, 4 buttons with full keypad] to be able to set up & access zones
