BCD436HP/BCD536HP: Help! reception problems

I received a new to me Uniden BCD536HP, and when I would scan when I received it, I could hear local police, now I don’t. I don’t know if my son changed something on it or what but I remember seeing a “Palmetto 25” option but now I don’t. Please advise, lost in South Carolina.

Could easily be a quick key that your son has turned off.

That is probably referring to the Palmetto 800 P25 trunked system. Are you scanning from the database or a favorites list? It is very possible that the favorites list quick key was turned off. It is also possible to disable a favorites list from scanning or to delete a favorites list in the scanner menus. Was the scanner programmed by you or someone else? Do you have the favorites list files used to program the scanner? What is your city, county, and state so we can get out eyes on the database to see if police were recently encrypted. If using favorites lists, try this: Press the MENU button on the scanner. You should see Set Scan Selection. Press E. You should see Manage Quick Key Status. Press E. You should see Favorites Quick Key. Press E. Scroll to a favorites list with the name Palmetto included. If it says Off, press E to change to On. Press the AVOID button to exit the menus.
