Hello Everyone, I will be traveling to Baltimore in a couple of weeks, ( God Help Me ) for travel, can anyone assist with the proper talk groups for for Syscom, Maryland State Police Aviation, Medevac Operations, and Shock Trauma Notification Frequencies? Also what CTAF / Aviation channels are used by the helicopters in that area to coordinate like 123.025? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Tony M. Harrison, NJ

Pretty much everything you need is in the RRDB wrt SYSCOM and the 700 A-G channels. Additionally, state police helicopters that provide emergency medevac services in the surrounding jurisdictions typically operate on the local systems using randomly assigned talk groups. The helicopters are generally dispatched by telephone. Occasionally you will hear them on a consult in the air, but a lot of the pre-hospital stuff is handled by the ground units, at least in the metro counties. I did hear a Trooper consulting on the SYSCOM talk group when I was in a rural part of the state yesterday, maybe because of the flight time being a bit longer to UMST. They also use 44.74 and 47.66 from time to time although the 700 A-G channels may have recently (finally) deprecated those. Private medevac helicopters do not typical respond to emergencies, thus are mostly limited to interhospital transports.

Forgot to add that skyvector has a Baltimore helicopter chart in its quiver. While 123.025 is a low altitude helicopter common channel, I see that 123.05 is posted for UMST and Johns Hopkins. I'm not sure if / how they are used.

A-G simply means air to ground. They are a nationwide allocation and are not part of the FIRST trunked radio system. They are conventional frequencies. so no talk group number.

44.74 110.0 PL at times definitely repeats some of the A-G traffic from the 700Mhz frequencies. I get it loud n clear out here in Jeff Co WV at times. Your mileage may vary in B'more. The repeaters that rebroadcast the traffic on this frequency are probably still on a voter system. Also, you might want to look into Statcom frequencies, too which are all over the db in Baltimore and other parts of Maryland. I believe in B'more they fly out of Martin State Airport just east of the city and a lot in southern PA. Also look into programming the MD FIRST system + the 700Mhz A-G frequencies in. You'll definitely get all your activity there.

There's plenty of chatter on those low-band freqs. And almost every medevac will generate a hospital notification.

123.025 is used all the city and surrounding areas for traffic avoidance with alll the PD, med helos, and one TV station helo.

Plus a few private helos fly out of the heliport at Pier 7 near Boston and Clinton streets and will also be on 123.025

I can confirm that I've heard MSP on the 700 AG freqs from Northern Virginia. I don't scan their low-band freqs.

One other option to hear Syscom is through Broadcastify. If you go to the home page, tap the listen tab and go to Calls platform. Go to the MD FiRST Baltimore site and create a single tkgp playlist. Syscom to Aviation 7640 is active on that site. Now you can at least monitor the helicopters and Stat / Lifenet as they fly through Maryland. Although not RF its Nice that you can hear it anywhere you have cell or wifi service.
