The cover doesn't bulge at all.. the mAH is 5400MAH 3.7V 19.98Wh ..
If the back of the scanner is flat, that 5400MAH battery is using the same space as the Uniden original 3600MAH battery. Uniden shipped new covers to make room for the 5400MAH batteries. The new covers give the scanner a large bulge at the bottom to accommodate the larger battery. What are the dimensions of your battery?

Indeed, reliability is more important than saving a buck..... because you'll end up spending more in the long term.

yep, i was 'in between jobs' years ago and had a uniden 396T.
i live in Florida where lightning can happen at anytime.
so i bought a $70 smart charger to save the $500+ radio.
i still have both.

The original owner may have removed a bulged cell, and put it back together. I've done that to get a little more life out of the battery, (At a reduced capacity). Try scrunching a tissue inside the battery case, this may tighten it up. Like adding a bit of foam.

Purchase the external charger and battery, and use that to charge the battery. That way, you'll have a spare ready to go and fully charged when needed. Plus, if the generic battery does not work well, you'll have an OEM one to use. I only use the Micro USB port to program my SDS100.

What does it say on the battery? The early SDS100's were shipped with a 3600mAH battery. The back of the scanner was flat from top to bottom with the original battery cover. It was found that the battery did not have sufficient capacity to power the scanner for a reasonable time. All of the owners with the early scanners were shipped a larger 5400mAH battery and a deeper cover to accommodate it. This created a large bulge at the bottom on the back of the scanner. Later scanners were shipped with a large battery and cover. If your scanner is flat on the back and the battery is marked 5400mAH, someone peeled the label off of the large battery and stuck it on a small one.

Just a update: I got the new battery from artisian power and it's working! at least it's showing voltage on the screen now so thats good. it says on the battery to charge 6 hours before using so i put it in the scanner and am leaving it off to charge since i don't have a external charger. but yeah the more i think about it heres what i think has happened . The scanner is a year 2020 model so thats 5 years old so i think the battery was the original battery and over that time it has swollen . also after putting in the new battery the case closes better i don't have to smoosh it down really hard and i don't feel the battery moving around anymore when i shake it. When i bought this scanner i got a good deal $350 but after a buyer preimium and shipping that made it come to $440 and now the battery which was $60 so i have about $500 in the scanner now and i still want to add the upgrades which will be $120 so i didn't really get the good deal in the long run if i had it to do again i would have just bought a brand new one tbh. THanks
