Help set up my scanner

Hey guys, I'm a noob at the whole scanner thing. And I bought a Pro-197 from raidoshack. I want to use it for listening to Portland Police, Multnomah county sheriff, and maybe the State Police. Could anyone help me out? I have a trial version of the RR programing software.
