• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Ok here is my challange, and it is wide and varied. I am working with a volunteer group that is working to set up Search Centers when there is a Amber Alert in Utah. http://www.usearchutah.org
I became involved in this group during the last search a few weeks ago for a missing 5 year old girl (Destiny Norton) who was later found killed.

We have some basic ideas and things in place that are working so far. Our goal is to have a fully functional Search center in place and Operational withing 3 hours of being called in. Here are the current challanges I am looking into:

1. Computer way to track Volunteers. Time In/Out, Team, Locations Covered, etc. (similar to the "T-Card System"

2. Mapping, I am looking at google earth and so far seems to work for my needs. also contacting local surveyor's office.

3. Any other advice, software, websites, eperiances from this great community that may be a resource in the future.

1. Have someone write what you need. There has to be someone local who has the ability and is willing to contribute the effort.

2. Not my area of knowledge - sorry.

3. Contact your local ham club. They've probably done it before (gotten operational within 3 hours from a cold start) and have the equipment and experience to provide the communications you need on a search (and they probably already work with the local PD).
