Hi there,

I've moved to Parramatta - I am originally from New Zealand where I was a 24/7 365 scanner listener.

So, naturally things sound rather quiet to me here with not being able to listen to what's going on. I'm keen to listen to what I can in this region. I know police are encrypted, but fire/ambo/aviation are other areas I used to regularly listen to.

I have BCT15X scanners, so probably not new enough to listen to the transmissions from here. Keen to get my hands on a pre-programmed radio with frequencies I'll be able to listen to in my area, alternatively, if there's anything streamed online that someone could give me access to, that would be amazing! Please get in touch if you can help me out dan@dannews.tv - Thanks so much!

Oh, it's the Dannews, Love your YouTube channel mate. Anyway, you will need a P25 phase 2 trunking capable scanner, unlike NZ there are many online streams on Broadcastify and YouTube of radio traffic in Sydney as it is not illegal there like NZ to stream as well as most agencies have been digital for many years on large scale trunked systems unlike NZ which have been predominately on easy listening conventional analogue for years as you will know with the BCT15X. You will need to program the GRN system which is all available here at Radio reference and most talk groups are unencrypted although I did hear rumours of a new Public Safety Network being rollout in NSW just like NZ with Encryption also like NZ soon will be. Someone in NSW will surely be able to help you out.

You could also look at an SDR dongle for our PC and use many of the free scanning software out there to scan the airwaves via a laptop or desktop as I find this more cost-effective given how cheap you can pick SDRs up for now.
