Hi Everyone -

Picked up 2 of these scanners from my local Radio Shack...all nice & new for $99 each.....some love or hate this scanner, but for $99, you can't go wrong, honestly.

Here's my question...hope you can help, as I am scratching my head.

I am using the BuTel software for this model, did the import from the RR Database, and loaded it in. This may sound odd...but I see all the trunking ID's, but no audio. I know I am doing something stupid....what gives? I have used this software on my Pro-106's..and no issues.....

Can anybody shed some light? Rather not delve into the manual unless I have too...lol.

Not so familiar with the Uniden versions.......

Thanks,
- Mark

The user guide for the 160 is well written and easy to follow. Open it up and spend a few minutes getting to understand your scanner, rather than rely only on the software or look for a "quick fix" here. It's probably a matter of setting the correct mode for each programmed frequency in the trunked bank, or making sure the LCN's are programmed in the correct order and starting at 01, not 00, for an EDACS system. Again, all of this and much, much more is explained in the user manual.

Oh Good Heavens! Don't do that - you might learn something.
If we know the system(s) you want to monitor, we might be able to give you an answer.

Now, Now......guys............just got them....want to 'dive' right into it to have some fun before dinner......haven't we all wanted to do this? Manuals are for sitting on the toilets, lol.... Lightn' up people!

It's a Motorola Type 2 system, Suffolk County Police, NY..................here's a photo below of what I have on my scanner now.....if I use the arrows up, it goes through each ID.....but I hear nada.

First, turn the squelch up to at least the threshold, if not dead center. Second, put the scanner in SCAN mode, you won't hear anything in PROGRAM mode.

Got it..........it's scanning, and I hear the transmissions......now....how do I stop the scan, so I can just listen to specific ID's....on my other scanners, I hit MAN, and can go up or down with arrows.............

Thanks,
- Mark

The 160 is a great analog scanner. You'll enjoy "playing around" with it.

I wish I would have picked up another one when I bought mine.

I agree. The price is great. I have a couple of Digital Pro-106's for when I lived in DE, where it was all digital...don't need that here, however, the digital scanners sure have better audio/reception on the analog channels....

Thanks guys for helping me get these radios going...having a blast....I have the manual on the screen and will browse though it from time to time..........I am not stupid...I program many models of Motorola radios all the time for the fire service, police, etc.....but sometimes these scanners are not plug -n-play!
