• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone. I sold my buick and bought a nice low mileage 94 gmc sierra ext cab. I'm going to be puting my 7800 and possibly a scanner in it. Was wondering where or what antennas could use. I know could nmo on the roof for dual band, but was wondering if anyone has mounted else where with good results. thanks for the help

Well for the ham radio a Larsen 2/440 mobile antenna would do good and for the scanner a Larsen tri-band antenna.

I had a 94 GMC pickup, but it was a regular cab. I had a VHF 1/4 wave on the roof and a CB whip (larsen NMO27) on the left front fender.
The 1/4 wave worked well, but the CB antenna was just OK. It was hard to get it to tune correctly on the edge of the hood like that.

I think with the longer length of the extended cab roof, you'd be best served by installing two NMO mounts on the roof, in lined down the center, and use one for the dual band ham radio and one for the scanner. While there are way to do it different, the center of the roof top is a better location, performance wise. On a pickup, you don't really have a lot of other options. The hood/fender mount may cause some issues with the cab blocking the pattern. Magnet mounts work, but I prefer to drill. Glass mounts are just weak at best, especially on the lower frequencies.

I didn't, just hung the radios under the center pull out cup holder. Worked well for a 2 meter and a small CB.

did you have your vhf whip in the middle? I took the 3rd brakelight out and theres not much room it looks like to pass coax through. or if i wanted to put it in the center, how do i get the light out? my dual band antenna is around 34-36 inches, will the middle be able to handle that? i put it at the back on my 06 silverado i had. thanks
